Hello, I’m @softploy, the formulator of this Interlocut project. I originally made what would ultimately be called Interlocut to try to offer a space lowering the temperature around discussing complex political histories. Having cordial dialogue with people from different cultures has been something I’ve found incredibly rewarding.

My views are shaped less by ideology than by a visceral opposition to tyranny and a belief in the dignity of cultures — especially those, like Iran’s, that have been silenced or distorted by rule of a shackling authoritarian regime. I value open societies, cultural exchange, and social freedom. I don’t glorify power, but I do believe in moral clarity and recognizing the intent behind political actions, as I see recognizing intent to be essential to learning from a historical figure’s failures as much as their successes.

I want people from different worlds to be able to understand each other beyond mere news stories. To get there, I honestly think we have to talk some politics, for politics is ultimately about people: stories, pain, and hopes.
