The topic of being overweight is more controversial than some think.
One side of the coin you have those who look down on those who are obese and make fun of them. Some even make fun of those who are exercising to attempt to lose weight which of course doesn’t help with motivation.
On the more rare but more extreme side, you have some who see no health disadvantages and to the most extreme, encourage people to increase their weight.
It’s getting exceedingly rare to have those who while discourage being overweight, also treat people as… people and only encourage the best outcome for others.
As usually there’s some sexism leaked into obesity. Women are judged far more than men when it comes to weight along with body shape in general. When it comes to “having to look good” (conventionally) women are expected to fit the standards. This of course causes increased insecurity about themselves simply because of looks. Men do suffer this as well but not to the same extent.
I would love to hear how as a society, people could learn to be less judgmental about obesity while encouraging healthier lifestyles.
What I’m saying here is an massive oversimplification but it’s impossible to add all factors in a single post.
